Ancient codes hidden within the Torah reveals the secrets of global events, past (i.e. Hitler, the Kennedy assasination, the Gulf War), present, and future. One man (York) is after the Code, seeking the power to change the world as we know it…for the worse. Another (Van Dien) seeks the truth, risking his life and everything he stands for in order to stop him.
Hannah, who wears a hearing aid, is forced to go on holiday. On holiday she manages to find a job: caring for Josef, a burn victim on an oil rig who temporarily lost his sight, until he’s stable enough to be transferred. There is almost no one on the rig, except a cook, an oceanographer and a few others out at sea. Hannah tends to Josef and he slowly breaks her shell of silence.
Maggie, a 50-year-old widow, desperately needs some money to pay for a medical treatment for her ill grandson. After one attempt at trying to find a job, Maggie finds herself roaming the streets of London Soho. Her eye is caught by a small poster in the window of a ‘shop’ called “Sexy World” which reads: “Hostess wanted”. Too desperate and lost to realize what she does she enters. Micky, the owner, is embarrassed at first, but intrigued by Maggie, he decides to have fun and offers her the job. Maggie courageously gets to know her first anonymous customers, eventually using Irina Palm as her stage name. Maggie, who applies herself in order to keep her job, fascinates Mickey.
An elderly couple go about their routine of cleaning their gabbeh (a intricately-designed rug), while bickering gently with each other. Magically, a young woman appears, helping the two clean the rug. This young woman belongs to the clan whose history is depicted in the design of the gabbeh, and the rug recounts the story of the courtship of the young woman by a stranger from the clan.
Agnes Jaoui plays a local political candidate Agathe Villanova, who returns to her childhood home in the south of France in order to help her sister Florence (Pascale Arbillot) sort through their recently deceased mother’s belongings. While she’s there, the son (Jamel Debbouze as Karim) of family maid (Mimouna Hadji) takes advantage of her presence and attempts to interview her as part of a documentary about successful women that he’s undertaken with his film school teacher, Michel (co-writer Jean-Pierre Bacri). However, Michel’s intentions aren’t quite what they seem, as he’s having an affair with Florence and hoping to persuade her to leave her husband. Meanwhile, Karim finds his own marriage threatened when his attractive hotel co-worker (Florence Loiret-Caille) declares an interest in him.
Two inter-cut tales of redemption, a century apart. Late in the 1800s, two brothers feud over a woman. She marries one; the other, Luke, a deadly gunslinger, becomes a soldier of fortune in Macedonia, helping Turks keep local Christians in line. He’s after money. Wounded, he’s nursed by a pregnant villager who urges him to “kill for good, not for gold.” A dying old woman in modern Manhattan tells Luke’s story; her listener is Edge, a young thief who’s burgled her flat to pay off crooked cops who can send him to jail. He listens with the desperate hope that he’ll find gold that he thinks she has. The stories intersect when Edge sorts out the old woman’s connection to Luke.
